Kim and Tara met while running the estimating department of a
medium-sized general contracting firm. Theirs is a partnership and
working chemistry that is rare among women in construction. They
founded XGC Consulting with a vision to provide the ultimate
pre-construction experience.
Kim McCarthy is a Professional Quantity Surveyor, a Gold Seal
Certified Estimator and past-president of the Hamilton-Halton
Construction Association (the first female to hold the position in
the association's 98 year history!). Tara Myers is a Professional
Engineer and a Gold Seal Certified Project Manger. She started her
career in the Oil and Gas sector working on design and engineering
before transitioning to project management.
In this episode we talk about the influence of our supportive dads,
being empathetic task-masters, the joys of construction estimating
and the dynamics of positive business partnerships with other
women.
